With over 3 million devices
sold in the first 80 days (source: Wikipedia), iPad fever
is sweeping the world, including the legal sphere, with law firm
Eversheds currently piloting the replacement of all their fee
earners’ laptops with iPads (source:
CRN Channel Web) in conjunction with
Computacenter.
Recognising the growing trend in the industry, IRIS Legal has
successfully trialled the iPad for IRIS Legal Hosted Services
integration with forward-thinking client, Clerksroom, and their 60
counsel and 20 clerks.
Ralph Dixon, Barrister at Clerksroom, explains:
“From receiving the iPad to being fully online took no time
at all, delivered with the usual first class service from IRIS
Legal.”
Michael Powers QC, Barrister at Clerksroom, adds:
“The iPad is so slimline and portable. These are
important characteristics for legal professionals who work remotely
as well as on premises in chambers. Now we have access to our
desktop with the added convenience of always being online, without
having to carry around bulky laptops or other PDA equipment, so I
can update my electronic files as soon as I’m out of
court.”
Stephen Ward, Manager at Clerksroom, clarifies:
“This IRIS Legal iPad project has been exciting, working
with such new technology and to have been the chambers to trial the
compatibility with IRIS Legal Hosted. Let’s face it, we all
like our gadgets and Apple dominate the market with their iPhones
and now iPads.
There are many intuitive features and as it’s a natural
progression from the iPhone, it has the same familiar look and
feel, making it easy to use. Combined with IRIS Legal Hosted
technology, the iPad delivers your key applications direct to your
lawyers, with the added bonus of 24 hour connectivity.
There’s no worry about dropping and reinstating connections, as
happens with traditional laptop devices, so it’s more
reliable.
I would recommend the iPad with IRIS Legal Hosted
integration for any chambers keen to be at the cutting edge of
technology and experience the full benefits of remote
working.”
Nick Ozga, Divisional Director for Barristers & Coroners at
IRIS Legal Solutions, concludes:
“The iPad is being universally adopted into corporate IT and
our Clerksroom project has shown how it can help lawyers work more
flexibly. If any members of chambers have ordered, or are on
the waiting list for the iPad, it’s reassuring to know that you can
quickly and easily synchronise your chambers email and calendar
with the Hosted system mail server.
Those members of chambers that have the iPad’s sister – the
iPhone – will be familiar with this, but the iPad takes it a step
further. Installation of an additional App from the Apple
AppStore enables complete access to your IRIS Legal Hosted
system desktop. Once set up, you can access your IRIS Legal
chambers management, email, diary and other software for reviewing
and amending documents, as well as all the usual applications that
you can get with the iPhone.”
